Biography

Professor Dehghan Banadaki received his Ph.D. from West Virginia University in 2022. His research work was on modeling and controlling renewable energies. He joined CalPoly in 2018 where his teaching and research activities have been mainly focused on the power and energy area. He has taught a variety of courses during the last several years in power, control, electronics, and systems areas. Besides his teaching duties, he has been active in advising clubs, writing proposals, making collaborations with industries, advising students' projects/theses, and bringing grants to the department.

Professor Dehghan Banadaki earned his Ph.D. from West Virginia University with research focused on modeling and controlling renewable energy systems. He joined Cal Poly in 2018, where his teaching and research have primarily concentrated on power and energy systems. Over the past several years, he has taught a wide range of courses in power, control, electronics, and systems area.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Professor Banadaki has actively contributed to the department by advising student clubs, writing research proposals, collaborating with industry partners, supervising student projects and theses, and securing grants.

Some of the funded projects include:

  • Distribution Reliability Analysis with SDG&E
  • Electric Bike Charging Stations by Wind Power Energy

Research Interests 

  • Microgrids Modeling, Control, and Protection
  • Power simulations with Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS)
  • Photo Voltaic Battery Energy Storage Systems (PV-BESS)
  • Big Data Analytics application in Power Systems 
  • Reliability analysis of distribution systems
