Biography
Dr. Bohong Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology in 2022. Before joining Cal Poly, he served as an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Missouri S&T from 2023 to 2026.
Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on fiber-optic sensing, applied spectroscopy, microwave and wireless sensing, and advanced instrumentation. His work supports a broad range of applications, including smart infrastructure, biomedical sensing, industrial process monitoring, and sensing in harsh environments. He has authored or co-authored more than 70 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications and holds four U.S. patents.
Dr. Zhang is a member of IEEE, SPIE, and Optica, as well as a faculty member of IEEE–Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN), IEEE’s honor society. He has been the Ad-Hoc Reviewer for more than 20 scientific journals and multiple international conferences. He has also served as a proposal panel reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
Dr. Zhang currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Optoelectronic and Photonic Sensors section of Frontiers in Sensors. He has also served as a Guest Editor for the MDPI journals Sensors, Electronics, and Materials. His professional recognitions include the Outstanding Reviewer Award from IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement in both 2023 and 2024, an MDPI Top 1,000 Outstanding Reviewer Award in 2024, and the 2024 Outstanding Young Engineer Award from the IEEE St. Louis Section.
