Biography
Siavash Farzan is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at Cal Poly. Farzan received his Ph.D. in Robotics from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2021. His research focuses on safety-critical motion planning and control of cyber-physical systems, including autonomous vehicles, aerial drones, and robot manipulators, aiming to solve fundamental challenges for autonomous systems to operate effectively in real-world settings. Farzan brings several years of experience in industry as an Embedded Systems Engineer into classroom. He regularly teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses and laboratories in the areas of Cyber-Physical Systems, Robotics, Controls, and Embedded Systems. He has an interest in innovative instructional technologies, and has co-developed the first lab-based online Mechatronics course (hosted on edX), which brings hands-on mechatronics education to anyone around the world who wants to learn. Dr. Farzan was the recipient of the 2023 Rho Beta Epsilon Award for excellence in robotics education.
