Biography
C. Arthur (Art) MacCarley, Ph.D., PE., Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California. Prof. MacCarley previously held positions with American Bosch, Hughes Aircraft, and served as the Director of the Alternative Fuels Laboratory at the University of Denver Research Institute. His research specializations are automotive electronics and active safety systems, traffic and vehicle sensing and monitoring on highways, engine and drivetrain control, alternative fuels, electric vehicle propulsion systems, and machine vision for traffic applications. Research clients have included the National Science Foundation, US Department of Energy, California Department of Transportation, California Office of Traffic Safety, University of California (Berkeley and Irvine), and several industrial clients. He is active as an expert witness in his research areas, having supported 30+ clients in intellectual property and product liability cases. He has published over 150 refereed technical papers and book chapters and serves on the editorial review boards of the SAE, IEEE and Transportation Research Board of the National Academies.
